Helen Ruth Crews

Helen Ruth Crews, age 85 of Mt. Pleasant passed away Wednesday at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ernest T. Crews, Jr. and a daughter of the late James and Ada Belle Dooley, having been born in Columbia, Tennessee on June 25, 1931. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jordan Henderson Frizzell; and two brothers, James and Jerry Dooley.

Survivors include her children, Marilyn Crews Hardison, Barbara Crews Karch, Doris Crews (Ken) Frizzell of Murfreesboro, and Paul Thomas (Faye) Crews all of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Heather Hardison(Sean) Keen of Seminole, FL, Jennifer Karch (Braden) Fleischer of Nashville, Richard (Ashley) Karch, Jr. of Clarksville, Scott Hardison of Columbia, Chelsey Crews (B. J) Gibson, Rebecca (Michael) Runions, and Adam Runions, all of Mt. Pleasant; great grandchildren, Ronin, Jakob, Lexington, Charleston, Cayley, Brynlee, Blake, and Kelsey; special nephew, Kenneth Dooley, and several special nieces and nephews, and her two special and dear friends, Angela Pope and Karen Pearl.

Mrs. Crews had been a longtime member of the Locust Street Church of Christ. She was a seamstress for many years, having worked for Elizabeth Jackson Interiors. Once her children were older, she worked hard to put herself through the Secretarial School at Columbia State Community College. Following her graduation, she worked for several large corporations in the Mt. Pleasant area including, Menasha Corporation, Rhone-Poulenc and Rollins Environmental Services. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She had great fun as a member of the Mule Town Stompers as well as the Silver Creek Cloggers. She loved her sweet companion, her dog, Angel.

Visitation was held Friday, July 22 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the North Main Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant. Her nephew by marriage, Hal Brown officiated the service. Burial was in the Polk Memorial Gardens with Richard Karch, Jr., Braden Fleischer, Kenneth Dooley, Danny Cupples and Mike Murillo serving as pallbearers.
