James (Red) Lindsey

James Lindsey, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, April 08, 2015 at his home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.

James (Red) was born on March 6, 1943 in Maury County, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Maurine Kinzer Lindsey and Robert Haley Lindsey. He graduated from Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant, where he played football. He retired from Rhone-Poulenc Chemical located in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.

Mr. Lindsey was a veteran of the US Air Force and served during the Vietnam conflict from March 1962 until 1964. He was stationed at Smyrna Air Force Base and his company flew supplies into Vietnam and around the world. He was very proud of the fact that he had flown around the world, except for New Delhi, India. Mr. Lindsey attended Porter’s Chapel Methodist Church during his youth and then was a member of the First Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, where he sang in the Choir for several years. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 10 and a member of the Maury County Historical Society. His hobby was woodworking, and he had made several pieces of furniture for his family. He and his wife Kay also kept an antique booth at the Franklin, Tennessee Icehouse for six years.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Shirley L. Coleman and a niece Dawn Graham.

He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Kay Rochelle Brown Lindsey; three sisters Mrs. Barbara Ann L. Draughn of Springfield, Tennessee, Mrs. Robine Lindsey of Columbia, Tennessee, and Mrs. Linda L. Byers (Luther) of Quinby, North Carolina; three children by marriage Tim Brown (Tara), Mark Brown, and Beth Wieck (Adam); eight grandchildren by marriage Brittany Nichols (Jesse), Mallory Harris (Robert), Anne Walker Daniels, Blair Brown, Mitch Brown (Brooke), Mary Morgan Brown, Georgia Brown, Kayla Wieck, and Hayden Wieck; three great-grandchildren by marriage Bradley Nichols, Harper Nichols, and Greyson Brown; two nieces Gwen G. Pratter, Susan Coleman; five nephews Clark Graham, Luke Byers (April), Lindsey Byers, John Draughn (Melanie) Allen Draughn; and a host of great nephews and great nieces.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 202 South Main Street in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral at 1:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Methodist Church Building Fund, 202 South Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee 38474 or to Porter’s Chapel Methodist Church in care of Edith Daniels, 1085 Lusk Road, Columbia, Tennessee 38401.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Emilio Rodriguez for his knowledge, wisdom, and kindness and his nurse Shane Hobbs; Dr. Robert Bain, Josh Hill, and all the nurses for the good, loving care he received at Life Care in Columbia, Tennessee; Shirley McNeese, Tim Smith, Gary Flippo, Carl and Lynn Brooks, Brenda West, Shirley Whitwell, Patricia Barnes; and a special thanks to all his buddies at Rhone-Poulenc for their interest and concern.
