Jim Milan

Jim Milan, age 69, of Hohenwald, passed away at NHC Maury Regional on Tuesday, May 2, after a long illness.

He was born on March 5, 1948 and was the son of the late Lee Roy Milan and the late Mary Breece Bastin. He began his education in a one-room school house at Macedonia Church in the West Fork Community. He attended elementary and junior high schools in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Hay Long High School in 1966. He graduated from MTSU in1970 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and attained his Master of Arts in English in 1976.

On June 22, 1972, he married the love of his life, Angela Alexander, and shared his love with her and their two beautiful daughters, Amanda and Amelia.

He began his teaching career in Lewis County in 1970 and taught 7th grade for 2 years. He taught American History and English at Lewis County High School for 43 years. He was also an adjunct English teacher for CSCC for a number of years. He was a compassionate teacher and loved by many students. He brought history and English alive for his students through his unique art of storytelling.

Jim is survived by his wife, Angela; daughters, Amanda (Brent) Smith of Bell Buckle and Amelia (Eric) Evans, and granddaughter, Georgia Elizabeth Evans of Murfreesboro and many special family members and friends.

The family would like to thank the 3rd floor nurses at Maury Regional Medical Center and staff at NHC Maury Regional for their excellent and compassionate care. Special thanks also go to Dr. Joseph Hensley, Dr. Shawn Corbin, Dr. Lucy Ledbetter, Dr. C. Houston Jameson, Dr. James Beech and Dr. Eric Scheitel for their excellent care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lewis County High School Gymnasium in Hohenwald on Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. Bill Lynch will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to one’s charity of choice.
