Martha Jane Barger, age 70, of Summertown, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at her residence.
Martha was born on January 8, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio to Charles and Ruth Spahr Howe. She married Ray Barger on August 25, 1974 and they raised a beautiful family together. At the age of 17, she became a Candy Striper and her love of helping others through the medical profession was born. She later earned her RN designation from Columbia State Community College. Her nursing career was spent working in labor and delivery and then eventually, focused on long-term care. Her caregiving nature, radiated to her home life as well, and she became a wonderful, loving mother. She also adored cats. She kept and immaculate home, being OCD about cleanliness. She also enjoyed collecting recipes and cook-books, collecting a large library for over 30 years. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and loved the Lord.
Cherishing her memory are her husband: Ray Barger of Summertown, TN; children: Shiela Philyaw of Woodland, NC, Ray Barger, III of San Antonio, TX, Ron Barger of Summertown, TN and Sean Barger of Summertown, TN; siblings: Joseph Howe of Summertown TN, Marcia Tegtmeyer of Xenia, OH and John Howe of Dayton, OH; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
We want to especially thank Bridget Barger for all of her loving care.
