Mary Lou Gammon

Mrs. Mary Lou Humphrey Gammon, age 87, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Mary Lou was born on March 13, 1927 to the late Ralph E. Humphrey and Virginia Drury Humphrey in Louisville, Kentucky. When she was a child she moved with her family to the North Hollywood area of California and spent most of her life in California. She enjoyed the outdoors and riding motorcycles with her husband through the beautiful state of California. Her father introduced her to the man who would become the love of her life and her husband, Lyman Gammon. He actually brought Lyman home to meet her and nudge her toward him. They married on April 3, 1943 and spent 71 devoted years with each other, still holding hands when Mary Lou took her last breath.
While Lyman was away during World War II, Mary Lou worked in the Department of Defense, serving her country. In this way, as in every other area of her life, she showed that she was a little woman with a big heart. In addition to being a devoted wife, she was a caring, loving and active mother to their four children. She loved music and was a wonderful organist and pianist as well as being very active in the church choir. She and Lyman moved to Tennessee 17 years ago and became active members of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. Additionally, she volunteered for the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was loved by everyone because she was so loving and kind herself.
Mrs. Gammon is survived by her devoted and loving husband: Lyman L. Gammon of Columbia; children: Nancy Gammon, Gerrie Gammon and Christine Michals all of Columbia and Brad (Dawn) Gammon of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandchildren: Taylor Michals, Lucas Gammon, Matthew Gammon, Tiffany (Alan) Romine and Natalie Wolf; great-grandchildren: Morgan Wood and Chloe Romine; and a host of cousins, great-nieces and nephews and many devoted friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary Lou is preceded in death by her brother Ralph Humphrey, who passed away while serving his country during World War II.
The family will celebrate Mrs. Gammon’s life at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. The family will visit with friends after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request all memorials be sent to Prayer Garden, Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.
