Henry Walter Locke was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 17, 1927. Walter joined the Lord November 12th after a short illness. His visitation will be Friday, November 15th at 10:00 a.m. followed by his service at 12:00 noon at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant followed by his burial at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, TN

Walter was a Columbia Central High School graduate, class of 1946. He entered the United States Army where he was deployed to serve in the Occupation of Japan. Upon his honorable discharge from his tour of duty, he returned to Columbia where he married Wilma Jane Murrell of Mount Pleasant on August 1, 1954. They devoted fifty-nine years together in Mt. Pleasant where they raised their family. The old Sinclair Service Station on South Main Street in Columbia became Locke’s Service Station where Walter was the owner and operator for 35 years. He sold the business in 1987 retiring to the Mount Pleasant Country Club where he spent the next twenty-five years perfecting his golf game.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma. They were blessed with three children to complete their family: Walter Timothy (Jackie) Locke, of Alexandria, Virginia, Jane Marie Locke Anderson (Jim) of Columbia, Anne Murrell Locke (Charlie Schneider) of Nashville, three wonderful grandchildren, whom he adored, Connor Lindsey Locke, Washington, DC, Dudley Talbot Locke, Denver, Colorado and Lindsey Locke Anderson, Columbia. His siblings: Joann Locke Pritchett, Ridgecrest, California and Howard G. “Buck” Locke (Winona), Columbia, also survive him, including beloved nieces and nephews. Walter is preceded in death by his parents Estelle Choran Locke and Walter Tilmon Locke, sister Julia Locke, and his mother and father in law Ruby Lindsey and Connor Ledford Murrell.

Walter was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, in Mount Pleasant.

The family wants to recognize Special Friends: Alan Blevins, Lawrence Douglas, Jodi Blevins-Duren, Candace Tron-Keeler, Betty and Sam Kennedy, Kay and Red Lindsey, Donna and Dan Morency, Jeff Quirk, Gerri Sisco, Nancy Tron, Bobbie and Ferrell White, Pam and Bob Walker and members of the Mount Pleasant Country Club.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the James K. Polk Home Presidential Hall, P.O. Box 741, Columbia, TN 38401 and Battle Ground Academy, P.O. Box 1889, Franklin, TN 37065.
