Betty L Culberson

May 24, 1952 — July 27, 2018

Betty L. Culberson, age 66, of Columbia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Betty was born in Columbia, Tennessee on May 24, 1952 to Clayton and Lena Mae Myracle Armstrong. She worked as a waitress. Everyone that met her loved her and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

One of Betty’s daughters, has this remembrance of her mom’s last day here on earth:

Anyone that met my mama loved her, she was sad when you were sad, she was happy when everyone was happy. She loved to make people laugh, and loved helping anyone that needed her when they were down or sick. She would sit with family, friends, and anyone else that needed her. My mom loved life and she loved her family and her friends.

I had seen her yesterday about 1 hour before she passed; she had cooked and we had been to the Goodwill. I had bought 2 chairs to recover and we had gotten her a pretty table and chairs that she wanted so we would have more places to sit at Christmas. She laughed and said we look like Sanford and Son. A few more laughs followed, and then we went back to her house and had some coffee and several more laughs. She never complained of real pain just said her acid reflux was acting up so she was taking her meds for it. So, we wrapped up our evening with a hug and a kiss. I can still hear her telling me as she stood on her porch and I was walking to my car, "Marsha you be good and I love you hun". I left and came home.

I had been home for maybe 30 minutes when my step-dad called and said he had called an ambulance and she was going to the hospital for chest pain. I hung up the phone and instantly had a sense of coldness come over my body. It was so bad that I jumped in a pair of jeans and a sweater then headed to the hospital. I was freezing up until the time the doctor came in and said they weren't able to save her and that she had passed away. Well you can imagine how warm I got at that point, like I was standing next to a heater. I think that was my mama’s way of telling me she was scared with the cold and then the warmth was when she made it to heaven. I will miss my mama so much, if you still have your mama please call her, go see her, and let her know how much she means to you. They can be taken so quickly from your life.

While this story was told by one of Betty's daughters, all of Betty’s children were blessed to have her as a mom.

Survivors include: her husband: Michael Culberson; children: Delois (Tony) Tucker, Gary Burlison, Donald Wayne Burlison, Jerry Burlison, Marsha Sanders and Kristy (Brian) Goins; step-sons: Keith and Shane Culberson; siblings: Leonard (Patricia) Armstrong, Billy (Louise) Armstrong and Mattie (John) Kurtz; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son: Timothy Burlison.
