Charles E. Mattson, age 72, passed away on Thursday December 20, 2018 in Columbia, TN. Charles was born to Charles and Libby Mattson in Oak Ridge, TN on January 2, 1946.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Roberta and his brother Wade. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Mattson, his children, Laura (Jerry) Leavitt, Jennifer Mattson, Roberta (Chad Martin) Mattson, and Derrick (Sarah) Mattson. He was also survived by his grandchildren, Martin, Morgan, Opal, Charleigh, Coco, Hazel, Ian, and Elise. In addition, he is survived by his sister Natalie (Gordon Williams) Mattson.

Charles graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a degree in chemical engineering. He began working at Stauffer Chemical company in Mobile, AL straight out of college. He moved with his job to Columbia, TN where he started his family and lived the rest of his life. He continued with the same company until his early retirement at 50. He enjoyed day trading on the stock market after his early retirement.

Outside of work, he loved spending time with his family. His favorite way of showing love was to grow and prepare delicious food for those he loved. He was a wonderful cook and grill master. He loved time with children and grandchildren at Tim’s Ford Lake in Winchester, TN. Many wonderful memories were made there with him. He also loved Alabama football, Bob Dylan, and playing bridge with the Dr. Ben High bridge club, where he competed at the national level.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN. The service will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
