Elizabeth Blair Owens

July 11, 1959 — July 27, 2022

Elizabeth Blair Owens, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2022, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Her husband, Jeff Owens, was by her side.

She was born on July 11, 1959, to Douglas Dewing and Sally Schaeffler Dewing in Brookfield, Connecticut.

Blair, as she was known by many, was what you would call hardcore; she knew what she liked and didn’t care what anyone else thought of it.

She spent many years in the military, stationed in both Germany and Texas, ultimately obtaining the rank of sergeant. She was a highly skilled, ambidextrous marksman, though she was not very good at throwing grenades! While in the Army, she met her best friend, partner-in-crime, and husband, Jeff. She was his commanding officer and they would come to spend almost every day together for the next 37 years. After their first date, they knew that they were destined to be together. So, after just four months of dating and one wild Halloween party, they decided on a whim that they wanted to spend their whole lives together. After venturing to the courthouse in Waco, Texas on November 1, 1986, in front of a judge and a person they bribed as a witness, they became husband and wife.

After starting their lives together and leaving the military, they both sat down and took a road atlas and let the fates decide on where they should grow. The fates decided on Maryland.

Throughout her whole life, Blair was a dedicated and mission-oriented person; she didn't do a thing without having a final plan in mind. In her home in Maryland, she would have a different room of the house renovated each year until it was perfect in Blair’s eyes. This home is where Blair and Jeff would raise their daughters. The house on Orchard Drive was a safe haven for a great deal of people; many lost souls would find their way to Blair’s Bar and Grill, the name given to the back deck where people came to laugh, cry, or party their faces off. You could always count on Blair to have a hot plate of food and a listening ear for anyone who came to the porch.

Blair was a truly amazing cook and showed her love through cooking for her family or a crowd. She was lovingly known as the grill sergeant and mistress of meat. Her pies were legendary, and so were the epic spreads she would create for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, or any old Tuesday.

Blair was also a lover of music, especially rock. She loved live music and had been to so many concerts, her favorites being the Allman Brothers, Incubus, Korn, and most of all, Tool. She cherished the memories of these concerts with her husband and her children.

Blair was so important and impacted many lives. Though she may have only had two biological children, she was a mother to many. She will be truly missed by all.

Blair is survived by her husband, Jeff; daughters Erin Owens and Jessica Wohlers; granddaughter Sylvia Elizabeth Wohlers; brothers Billy, Matt, and Andy Dewing; and mother, Sally Liggett.
