Fred Marion Brown

Fred Marion Brown, age 86, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 at his residence.

Fred was born on February 7, 1933, in Avon Park, Florida, to John and Eugenia Brown. On April 8, 1951, he married Joy Allen Brown, and they enjoyed a happy life together until her passing on May 10, 2018. He served honorably in the US Army. Fred was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed planting and caring for plants and flowers. He had an incredible green thumb and could get anything to grow. He was a loving husband and father, and loved his family in a special way. For many years he worked as the warehouse manager for Hooker Chemical Company. Later in life, he worked in sales. He was a member of Southgate Church of Christ.

Survivors include his daughters: Kim Hart and Betsy (Tony) Yancey; grandson: Cody Allen (Ann) Brown; cousin: Deborah Barcus; and his canine companion: Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Eugenia Brown and his wife: Joy Allen Brown.

Graveside services for Fred will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Danny Douglas officiating. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to give special thanks to Rena "Sissy" Isabell, Cindy, Antonio and Brittany and the rest of the staff at Hospice Compassus.
