Geneva L. Lewis, age 93, devoted wife of 71 years to Herman Lewis( deceased), father of Greg (Jennifer) Lewis and Teresa (Jay) Lewis-Wing, grandfather of Jessica (Chad) Lewis Luck, Becca A. Lewis, Elizabeth Lewis, and Sam Wing, and great grandmother of Fletcher Lewis Luck died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, March 14, 2020 in her home.

Geneva left her home in Lexington, Tennessee for the first time in 1943 at the age of 17, to become one of the Girls of Atomic City. Her work on the Manhattan Project helped in ending World War II. Upon returning home to Lexington she married Herman L. Lewis.

On Mule Day 1950, she moved to Columbia, Tennessee with her husband. Geneva was known as an excellent tailor. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, she worked at Pigg & Parsons in downtown Columbia, keeping the men of Columbia dressed well. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, women would go to Belk’s and later Peeble’s Department Store to visit the red head in the cosmetic department to select their favorite cosmetics and colognes. She loved her children. Her hard work allowed both her children the opportunity to go to college and lead successful careers.

Geneva was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church for 70 years. She was easy to pick out in the choir by her glowing red hair and smile. She served as a Sunday School teacher to many young adult and couples’ classes throughout the years. She was a true prayer warrior and was sought out for encouragement and prayer by those in need.

Geneva was preceded in death by her husband Herman L Lewis; parents: James Luther and Annie Bell Stricklin; brothers: Amos Andrew Stricklin, Ernest Grady Stricklin, Esme Harding Stricklin, Esley O’Neal Stricklin, Aaron Stricklin and James Monroe Stricklin; sisters: Addie Clarice Pruitt, Nancy Farice Horne, and Carrie Jenetta Loftin.
