Henry Edward "Ed" Merrow

February 15, 1944 — October 29, 2019

Henry Edward Merrow, better known as Ed or possibly “Big Pa,” left this earth on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at the age of 75.

Ed was known for his chase of laughter. It would be hard to be a member of Merrow/Beckman clan without such zeal for life. He constantly was working either mowing his yard or “making sawdust” as his wife calls it. He was born in Swartz Creek, Michigan, in 1944 to the late Roy Merrow and Elsie Brown. Ed retired from GM in 2002 after working for them for over 34 years in production. After his retirement, he and his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth moved to Tennessee to retire and rejoin the family. In their retirement, Ed and Elizabeth were passionate about traveling. They visited all but five states in the U.S. in their RV. Ed was a Mason at Clio Lodge 205 in Clio, Michigan.

A service in Ed’s honor will take place privately here in Columbia and later where he’s from in Michigan.

His loving wife survives Ed: Elizabeth “Jonnie” Merrow of Columbia; two daughters: Sondra Merrow (Joe Gazell) and Kathryn (Ken his favorite son-in-law) Beckman; two sons: Curtis McMann and Scott Harger; grandchildren: Donell (Jeremy) Gilley, Lisa Beckman, Heather (Daniel Smith) McCann, Kate (Tyler) Sneed and Joseph Gazell. He is also survived by his six great-grandchildren. His siblings: Josie Grimes, Eula Marie (Norm) Giggings, and Delmar Brown Jr. Many nieces and nephews survive him. Ed is preceded in death by his daughter, Nena Merrow Morgan and Charles Merrow, his brother, who was killed in the Korean War.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. You may send your condolences to the family at www.williamfh.com .
