James Christopher Hogan

July 1, 1960 — August 17, 2017

The cowboy rode away today. After his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) James Christopher “Chris” Hogan returned to be with his Lord who created him on August 17, 2017.

The cowboy with a big heart and deep philosophy about many things, who broke horses with great patience, looked after cattle, the man who loved his Lord, and whom had a passion for good music, was truly one of a kind. Chris loved motorcycles, his hunting dogs, and his beloved “shop”. His passion and time was filled with taking apart, putting together, and mending many pieces of equipment. Through that labor, he was able to be a friend to many neighbors who needed a hand. The Spring Hill native, who everybody seemed to know, is the son of RL and Ann Hogan. Ann precedes him. He has been a faithful member at Spring Hill Presbyterian since he was just a boy, was an ordained elder, and served as clerk of session for several years. He married and is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Brenda Howell Hogan.

Chris often surprised us all with his understanding of life, love, and emotions, which seemed to become even more profound in the face of ALS. Chris Hogan will be deeply missed.

Donations may be made on Chris’s behalf to the First Presbyterian Church of Spring Hill, or to the ALS Association TN Chapter at P.O. Box 40244, Nashville, TN 37204.

Chris’s family is grateful for the support of friends and family; with special recognition for our church family, the palliative care team at Hospice Compassus and the staff at NHC Columbia.

His family will receive friends in a true celebration of his life on Saturday, August 19th at Blevins Hall at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN from 3 to 6 p.m., where his life will be remembered with friends. The service will be held Sunday, August 20th at 2 p.m., also at Williams Funeral home with David Sawyer and Lyndall Propst officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Chris is survived by his loving wife Brenda Howell Hogan of Spring Hill; The joys of his life, his two children: Joshua Lee (Catie) Hogan, and Hannah (Lauren) Hogan of Columbia; His two brothers: Tim Hogan and John Hogan; sister: Meredith (David) Grooms; three nephews: Cole Hogan, Joey Ledbetter and Michael Hogan; his niece: Annie Ledbetter and his “Puppy”, Knox. Chris is preceded in death by his brother, David Hogan.
