MOUNT PLEASANT, TENNESSEE – Jimmy Bruce Welch, 73, died on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family and loving friend, Mary Atkins after a two-year battle with throat cancer. Mr. Welch was born August 26, 1944, in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Willie Ervin Welch and the late Mary Verla Studdard Welch. He was a 1963 graduate of Caledonia High School in Caledonia, Mississippi. Following high school, he moved to Colorado for four years where he worked in the lumber industry and on the construction of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex where the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) was headquartered. He then returned to Lowndes County, Mississippi, where he worked in mobile home and automobile sales prior to a twenty-five year career as a building contractor. He also owned and operated the Broken Spoke in Caledonia, MS. He then retired and relocated to Tennessee where he has resided for twenty years. He enjoyed raising horses and cattle. One of his favorite past times was country western dancing in Nashville and Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his brother Ervin Glendale Welch.

The family will visit with friends on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus, Mississippi on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial to follow at Egger Cemetery.

He is survived by, his daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya Welch Sweeney and Rush of Brandon, MS and Tina Welch Dancer and Steven of Madison, MS; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven Welch and Karen of Pulaski, TN; his brother Billy Welch of Caledonia, MS; and his sisters Judy Garner (Jim) of Double Springs, AL and Jane Windle (Earl) of Caledonia, MS. He is also survived by six grandchildren Coty (Kaylee) Welch, Katherine Welch, Taylor Dancer, Parker Dancer, Seth Sweeney, and Sarah Sweeney and one great grandchild Asher Welch. He is also survived by an aunt, uncle, and many cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jason Windle, Brian Windle, David Garner, Tim Welch, David Gaddy, Greg Gates, Steven Dancer, and Rush Sweeney. Honorary Pallbearers are his dancing friends from TDR in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Ruth Young, Dr. James Netterville, Dr. Ben Gardner, Faye Wear, RN, and the staff at Hospice Compassus.

Memorials may be made to the Maury County Animal Shelter. The family request any flowers to be sent to Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus, MS for the service on October 14, 2017.
