Joseph Reed

September 11, 1961 — March 8, 2018

Joseph Reed, age 56, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 8, 2018 surrounded by his loving family in Pineville, North Carolina.

Joseph “Joe” Reed was born on September 11, 1961 to the late Odell and Artha Reed in Orlando, Florida. Joe attended Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he met the love of his life, Kelly Ann Sater. They married on August 11, 1984. Shortly after they married, they moved to Texas, where he received his bachelor’s degree at Texas Christian University. In August of 1985, they welcomed their first child, Jennifer Kim, into the world. From Texas, they moved to Florida where Joe served as a pastor at several churches. In 1989, they welcomed their second child, Dan Curtis. They soon moved to North Carolina, where Joe served as a pastor while attending Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received his Masters in Christian Education at SEBTS in 1993. In 1997, they moved to Tennessee, where they resided for nearly fourteen years. In 2010, he accepted a pastoral position in South Carolina where he resided until his home going.

Over the years, Joe served as a pastor in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina, where he faithfully preached the gospel, made disciples, and shared the love of Christ with all. Not only did he serve as a pastor, but also he taught Bible and history at Zion Christian Academy for almost thirteen years, where he impacted numerous students, including his own daughter and son.

Joe was known by many names: husband, dad, brother, son, uncle, pastor, leader, teacher, mentor, and friend. He deeply loved his wife, children, and family and did anything and everything he could to make sure they knew of his love for them. Joe loved anything sci-fi, all things Christmas, Hawaiian shirts, Sonny’s BBQ, Chick-fil-A, and Krystal’s hamburgers. He enjoyed talking to his children, cooking for his family, discussing theology, and reading books. But above all, Joe loved his Lord and Savior, telling others about the good news of the gospel, and especially following through with discipleship. He was a faithful servant of Christ who made an impact on the lives of many people. He fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith, and is now in the arms of His Lord and Savior.

The family will visit with friends on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee.
