Madeline Claire Townsend

May 3, 1930 — February 7, 2021

It is with great sadness the family of Madeline Claire Townsend announces her passing on the evening of February 7th, 2021, at the Life Care Center of Columbia, Tennessee. She was 90 years old.

Madeline was born on May 3rd, 1930 in Jackson, Michigan to Herman and Cora Sparks. After Mr. Sparks’ passing, Cora was remarried to Madeline’s stepfather, Ross Hutchings and after his passing, Max Hart. She had one sister, Yvonda, all of whom have preceded her in death.

Madeline was a prominent realtor in south-central Michigan for many years before moving to Mayfield, Kentucky. There, she lovingly worked with special needs children, as both a school bus monitor and classroom aide. Madeline had a lifelong passion for caring for animals and was known for providing a home for many stray cats or dogs that found their way to her.

Madeline was married twice, first to Albert Tarr, then to John Townsend, both preceding her in death. She was always incredibly proud of her children: Elizabeth Dellarte (Michael), Andrea Miller, Michelle Amstutz (Mark), Laura Saenz (Fred), Eric Townsend (Veronica Meir), and Kathleen Burnham (Brian). Madeline was blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she enjoyed spending time with and who filled her heart with joy.

In her later years, Madeline moved to Tennessee where she was cared for by her niece, Jacqueline McNeely, until residing at the Life Care Center of Columbia, where she received excellent care for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Services for Madeline will be held in the Spring.
