Margaret Virginia Johnson

Margaret Virginia Johnson, age 82, of Columbia, TN passed away on October 22, 2017 at her residence.

Margaret was born on April 9th, 1935 in Springfield, Missouri to the late Edith Marie Gipson Hood and Eugene T. Hood. Margaret married her late husband Douglas Ray Johnson in Eugene, Oregon on March 3rd, 1953. She was a devoted wife, caring for her husband for several years following a stroke. She was also a loving mother. She spent much of her life helping others. Margaret retired from Kmart; she truly loved her job and made wonderful friends during her time there. She also worked for Dixie Manufacturing and was a volunteer for Maury Regional Hospital; she worked in the Gift Shop. She was a member of Eastside Church of Christ and now Southgate Church of Christ and was a part of the Women’s Bible Study. She also loved gardening and the outdoors.

Margaret is survived by her sons: Danny Ray Johnson and Douglas E. Johnson; Daughter: Shelia Faye Johnson Plant; Grandsons: Kris (Christine) Hughes, Aaron (Jessica) Hughes, Jeremy Hughes, Jason (Carrie) Hughes and Tim Hughes; Step grandchildren: Christy (Bryan) Zank, Edward (Jessica) Plant and Robert Kerigan; 17 Great Grandchildren and one due soon as well as special niece, Violet Hood. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband: Douglas Ray Johnson; daughter: Virginia Marie Johnson; Parents Edith Marie Gipson Hood and Eugene T. Hood; Mother in law: Mary Puckett Johnson; Father in law: George L. Johnson; Grandmother: Allie Gipson; Brother: Herman Hood and Nephew: Jess Hood.

Margaret’s family will visit with friends on Wednesday, October 25th from 3pm-7pm at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 26th, 2017 at 2:00pm also at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Joe Macer officiating.

Pallbearers are Kris Hughes, Aaron Hughes, Jeremy Hughes, Jason Hughes, Jaxon Hughes, S.I. Johnson, Ronnie Fitzgerald and Jerry Crigger. Special Thanks to: Alice Staggs, Faye Wear, Sara Holcomb and Southgate Church for prayers, cards and meals. Also, special thanks to special neighbors, Marie Blackburn and Faye Blocker.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation. Donations may be offered in Memory of Margaret online at www.alzheimersprevention.org .
