Mary Martha Vassar
July 19, 1923 — February 19, 2019
Mary Martha Roberson Vassar, 95, of Columbia, Tennessee formerly of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2019 at NHC Maury Regional surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Decherd, Tennessee to W. H. and Lizzy Belle Jones Roberson. Mary Martha was a devoted follower of Jesus and an active member of Lincoln Memorial/Heritage Baptist Church and Mountainview Baptist Church, both in Huntsville, Alabama and Pleasant Heights Baptist Church in Columbia, Tennessee. She worked for nearly thirty years in the Payroll Department of Thiokol Chemical Corporation. She loved to cook, thoroughly enjoyed being with family and had a contagious smile.
She is survived by her son Rev. Bob (Lisa) Vassar; her daughter-in-law Mrs. Bonnie (Frank) Taylor; six granddaughters, Stephanie (Yogi) Yeager, Susan (Ron) Painter, Sharon (Rob) Sanchez, Mary (Joshua) Taylor, Sara Vassar and Rachel Vassar, nine great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews whom she cherished dearly. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Milas R. Vassar, Sr.; her son Dr. James C. Caldwell; one brother, William Roberson and five sisters, Lela Click, Bertha Keel, Gracie Walker, Louise Killingsworth and Juanita Mincher.
The family is extremely grateful for the loving care she received from Dr. Doug Kennedy, Compassus Hospice and all the nurses, therapy staff, activities staff, housekeeping staff and all of her amazing CNAs at NHC Maury Regional.
Services will be Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home, Columbia, with Bro. Bob Vassar and Dennis Veal officiating. Visitation with the family will be Friday, February 22, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial will be Monday, February 25, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Huntsville Memory Gardens in Huntsville, Alabama.
The family prefers that memorials be made to the ministry of your choice.
