Mattie Geneva Young McEntyre, age 90, a resident of Tindell Lane in Columbia, TN, died on Sunday, May 8th.
Mattie was born in Giles County on December 19th, 1931 to Vinson and Gertrude Young. She was a graduate of Beech Hill School and taught preschool at Craft Memorial Methodist Church for many years. Known as “Miss Mattie” to many, she and her late husband John McEntyre spent their lives loving and serving their neighbors.
Mattie is survived by her daughter Patsy McEntyre, son Wade McEntyre, and two sisters, Peggy Hagood and Charlotte Holly. She has a granddaughter, Kathleen (Jacob) Smith, and a great-granddaughter, Virginia Heim.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mattie is preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Jo Smith, and siblings Vinson Young, Jr., Elizabeth Eley, Nell Fagan, David Young, and Billy Young.
In lieu of sending flowers to the family, Mattie requested that people send love and support to someone they know who is homebound.
