Robert Edward Crowder

March 27, 1927 — March 18, 2019

Robert Edward Crowder, age 91, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee went home to be with Jesus on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 8:46 PM.

Robert, known to many as R.E., was born on March 27, 1927 in Hampshire, Tennessee where he was raised. His parents were Robert Edward Crowder, Sr. and Drucilla Crumley Crowder. He married his loving wife, Helen Haywood Crowder on May 19, 1947, at his age of 20 and her age of 16. They stayed in the Columbia area before moving to Goodlettsville in 1965 where they planted their roots for the remainder of his life. He served in the army during the Korean War from 1951-1953 where he was stationed in Germany. Upon returning, he spent the majority of his career working as a branch manager for Gordon Foods and later, account executive with Volunteer Sales.

He was a beloved son, nephew, cousin, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Drucilla Crowder; his aunts and uncles, and siblings: William Eugene Gordon, Edna Gordon Lyles Ward, Opal Gordon Holden, Lillie Crowder Curry, Mary Katherine Crowder Brooks, Joe Adley Crowder and Nadine Crowder Grose. He is survived by his wife of almost 72 years, Mrs. Helen Crowder; daughter, Susan Grimes and son-in-law, Chris Grimes; granddaughters, Brittany (Steven) Stewart, Kristen (Blake) Collier, grandson, Christopher Grimes, great-granddaughters, Summer Fletcher and Abigail Parrish, and his sister, Mrs. Doris Dye, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins as he was one of nine children.

Visitation will be held at Goodlettsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 226 South Main Street, Goodlettsville, Tennessee 37072. on March 22, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where he attended for over fifty years and became a member. A Celebration of Life will be on March 23, 2019 at 1:00 also at the church. Family will visit with friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Following the service, he will be transported to Polk Memorial Gardens, 6465 Trotwood Ave, Columbia, Tennessee 38401.

He will always be remembered by his bright smile, selfless spirit, and hard-working attitude. He was a wonderful story teller of his childhood years working on the farm, his career and time in the army. He did not let a day go by without checking in on his family to make sure everything was okay, but more importantly just because he was thinking about them. He was a wonderful influence on his family and a remarkable man who made an impression on anyone he met. He will be missed more than words can express, but there’s comfort in knowing that he’s made it home with Jesus.
