Robert Porter Hooten

Robert Porter Hooten, age 80, of Columbia passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 at NHC Maury Regional.

Robert was born on June 2, 1937 in Spring Hill, Tennessee to the late Spivey and Anna Hooten. He married his beloved wife Dorothy “Moody” Hooten on August 31, 1954; they were married for 64 years. Robert retired from Lucas Chevrolet after working as an auto salesperson for 37 years. He was a respected member of the automotive community; his coworkers and friends fondly referred to him as a “coach and mentor”. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family, his church, and most of all he loved his Lord. He was a member of First Baptist Church Columbia. He was a 50 year member of the Spring Hill Masonic Club and was also a member of the Lions Club in Columbia, TN. He was loved, respected, and will be greatly missed.

Robert leaves behind his wife Dorothy Hooten; daughter Tricia (Michael) Weglarz; grandchildren Jason B. (Pam) Hooten, Josh (Yolanda) Hooten, Jessica (Dustin) Butcher, Stephen Weglarz, Phillip Weglarz and Kristona (Zack) Foster; great-grandchildren Zach Hooten, Sarah Hooten, Summer Hooten, Brodie Butcher, Brice Butcher, Emma Hooten, Eli Hooten, Cadence Foster and Paisley Foster; as well as great-great-grandson Knox Hooten; sisters Marguerite Porter and Dorothy Baxter; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Robert Hooten Jr., daughter Gail Hooten, and brother Bill Hooten.

The Hooten family will visit with friends on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. A Service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Blevins officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers include: Stephen Weglarz, Phillip Weglarz, Zach Hooten, Terrance Hawkins, Randy Drane and Tom Jennings. Honorary Pallbearers are past and present employees of Lucas Chevrolet, past and current members of First Baptist Church and Special friends Chuck and Ruby Gabbert.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Dwayne Fulks and Staff, Dr. Justin Kropf and Staff, the staff of NHC and Dr. Stephen Simmons and staff for their faithful primary care.
