Bruce Andrews

March 9, 1952 — November 12, 2025

Columbia

Bruce Andrews, 73, passed away on November 12, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee. He was born on March 9, 1952, in Jellico, Tennessee, to the late Hiram and Merline Andrews. Bruce spent his childhood between Tennessee and Kentucky, places that helped shape the man he would become.

A gifted and self-taught musician, Bruce learned to play by ear and could pick up nearly any stringed instrument placed in his hands. His remarkable talent earned him the nickname “Strings” during his years working at the General Motors plant. Music was woven throughout his life—he toured with the Hemphill Family Singers and had the honor of performing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.

Bruce had a deep love for dogs and a gentle way with animals. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a proud member of Grace Fellowship Church, where his faith was a steady foundation.

Bruce will be remembered for his musical gifts, his kind spirit, and the legacy of love he leaves with his family and friends.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents: Merline Swain Andrews and Hiram Andrews.

Bruce is survived by his wife: Bonnie Andrews of Columbia, Tennessee; brothers: Randall (Debbie) and Charlie (Beth) of Mason, Ohio; nephews: Randy (Aimee) and Charlie (Beth) of Mason, Ohio; niece Suzanne (Joe) Burwell of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; aunts: Louise (Roy) Meadors, Maymie (Willard) Douglas, Lois Swain of Williamsburg, Kentucky, and Irene McRary of Knoxville, Tennessee; uncle: Wilbert (Wilma) of Clinton, Tennessee; dear friend: Hal Boaz; and several greatnieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
