Charles Still, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, coach, and friend, passed away on August 25, 2026, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Charles was born on May 1, 1964, in Odessa, Texas, to Marie Hall Meadows and the late William “Billy” Johnston. To those who knew and loved him, Charles was simply the greatest man alive. He was kind, friendly, and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. He truly never met a stranger, and his warmth and genuine spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

Charles devoted 30 years of his life to his career as a Senior Field Service Engineer, servicing and maintaining the dialysis equipment that countless patients depended on for their care. It was more than a job to Charles—it was work he truly loved and took tremendous pride in. He understood that behind every machine was a person facing one of the most difficult seasons of their life, and he never lost sight of that. Charles had a special way of bringing warmth, humor, and a familiar smile into the dialysis centers he served, often becoming a bright spot in an otherwise difficult day for patients and staff alike. His knowledge and dedication made him exceptional at his work, but it was the genuine care he had for the people behind that work that made his 30-year career so meaningful. It was a life’s work that reflected exactly who Charles was: dependable, compassionate, hardworking, and always willing to bring a little light wherever it was needed.

Sports were a significant part of Charles’ life, especially softball. He spent many years coaching the Thunderkatz, sharing not only his love of the game but also his encouragement and enthusiasm with the players he coached. His time on the field brought him countless memories and friendships that he treasured throughout his life.

Charles also had an incredible love for music. It seemed there was hardly a song he didn’t know—he could name just about any tune and was always ready to sing along. Some of his happiest moments were the simple ones, sitting by the river with music playing, singing, relaxing, and enjoying the world around him.

Above everything else, Charles loved his family. He shared 36 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Anne, and together they raised three daughters who were a tremendous source of pride and joy. His love extended deeply to his grandchildren, and the life he built with his family will remain his greatest legacy.

Charles leaves his legacy to his loving wife, Anne Turner Still; daughters, Emily Lavender, Katie (Sean) Fowler, and Callie (Jordan) Still Glenn; grandchildren, Lilly Fowler, Maci McKennon, Allie Grace Fowler, Levi McKennon, Lexi McKennon, Tatum Fowler, and Brynlee Fowler; mother, Marie Meadows; siblings, Jeff Still and Anne Williams; and his faithful service dog and companion, Jax. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, teammates, players, and others whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.

He is reunited with his father, William “Billy” Johnston; brother, David Still; and maternal grandparents, Jefferson and Lillie Hall.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee.

Charles will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to others, his unmistakable love of music, the years he spent on the softball field, and the way he could make a friend anywhere he went. Most of all, he will be remembered for the tremendous love he gave his family and the countless lives he touched simply by being himself. His voice, his laughter, and the songs he loved will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
