Connie Zarate, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in October 1937 to Jake and Grace Sanchez, Connie lived a life marked by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ismael Zarate, with whom she shared a rich and enduring partnership of 69 years. Together, they raised a large, loving family and built a home that was always full of warmth, laughter, and open arms.

Connie is also preceded in death by her children Pedro Zarate, Suzanne (Joel) Johnston, and Ricardo Zarate, as well as her siblings Ramona Eychner, George (Angie) Sanchez, and Christine Lopez.

She is survived by her children Yolanda (Ed) Block, Mary Lou (James) Bielak, Ruben (Wendy) Zarate, and Carlos (Jehan) Zarate, who continue to carry forward her legacy of strength, kindness, and compassion. Connie is also survived by her sisters Angelica Lopez and Mary (Milford Shirley) Arp. Her life lives on in the hearts of her 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.

Connie was the very heart of her family. She juggled the demands of raising children while working as a dedicated hairdresser, never missing an opportunity to give of herself to others. Known for her joyful spirit and generous hospitality, she maintained an open-door policy that made everyone feel welcome. She never complained, always found reasons to smile, and brought comfort to those around her with her calm and steady presence.

Her cooking was legendary—especially her homemade tortillas and burritos, which she made by the hundreds, feeding not only her own family but also many coworkers. Music filled her life, and she found joy in creating beautiful beaded jewelry. Her hands were always busy, her heart always full.

Connie’s memory will be cherished and honored by all who were fortunate to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and kindness that will continue to inspire generations.
