David Drane Johnson 78 passed away peacefully after a brief illness at NHC Maury Regional TCC with his children and grandchildren by his side. David was known as D.D. but his favorite name was Daddy or Poppa. David had a smile that lit up the room. His daughter Beth inherited that from him; a quick wit and love for guns that his son James Lee got. A love for fishing his son Paul Wayne will pass down to his daughter. He had a knack of never meeting a stranger. His son Phillip took that right up.
He lived a quiet life at home watching old westerns, sitting in his carport, and laughing with anyone who stopped by to visit. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
David was a graduate of Haylong High School class of 1964. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a mechanic. He served from 1964- 1967 Traveling to Germany. He was retired from the Lewisburg Water Treatment Plant and Mangrum Securities.
He was preceded in death by his parents David Lee and Betty Drane Johnson. He is survived by his three sons and one daughter. James Lee (Gidget) Johnson of Lewisburg, Phillip (Amy) Johnson of Mt. Home Ark, Mary Beth Johnson of Columbia, and Paul Wayne (Jessica) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant. Six grandchildren. C.J. (Christian Bout) Johnson, Matthew (Rachel Dodson) Johnson, Skyler, Madilynn, Eli, and Neveah Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Wendall Griffy, Joey Klein, Ray Thurston, Randy Drane, George Roger Gilliam, and Donnie Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Howard Johnson, Kayla Gray, Staff of NHC Maury Regional TCC, Kelley Jefferson, and Past and present employees of Lewisburg Water Treatment Plant and the 1964 class of Haylong High School.
