Dorothy Jean Attkisson Thomason, age 95, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, at Maury Regional Hospital. Born on June 30, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, Dorothy was the daughter of the late James Monroe Attkisson and Nancy Jane Chatman Attkisson.
Dorothy grew up in the Watts Hill community surrounded by a large and loving family. One of thirteen children, she learned early the importance of family, hard work, and taking care of the people she loved. Those qualities stayed with her throughout her long and beautiful life.
In 1950, Dorothy married William Cordell “Cutie” Rogers, and together they welcomed two children, Cordelia “Dee” and William Stanley Rogers. Later in life, Dorothy found love again and married Bobby Gene Thomason in 1981.
Dorothy was a hardworking woman who spent many years working at Mt. Pleasant Manufacturing and Southeastern Shirt Corporation. She took great pride in everything she did, especially when it came to her home and family. She was an immaculate housekeeper and a wonderful cook, and her home was always a place of comfort, warmth, and care. She found great satisfaction in looking after the people she loved and took pride in making sure her family was always well cared for. Her hard work, dedication, and attention to the little things were just a few of the qualities that made Dorothy so special.
Dorothy also knew how to enjoy the simple pleasures that made life sweet. She loved spending time with her seek-a-word books, tending to and enjoying her flowers, taking trips to Tunica, and making a stop at Cracker Barrel. And if Dorothy was around, you could almost bet there was a Pepsi close by. These familiar routines and favorite pastimes brought her happiness and became cherished memories for those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered not only for her strong work ethic and caring heart, but for the warmth she brought into the lives of others and the way she made people feel welcome and at home. It is these little things; the flowers she loved, the meals she prepared, the places she enjoyed going, and the everyday moments shared with family and friends that will be treasured and remembered for years to come.
Dorothy was a woman of faith and a member of the Church of Christ, attending Macedonia Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. Her faith, strength, and love for her family were a quiet but lasting part of the life she lived.
She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Cordelia “Dee” Harris; grandchildren, Hansard Leo Cole Jr., Hillary McCandless, Heather Cole, and Marlene Cole; and great-grandchildren, Hayden (Madison) Ward, Keyton Bradburn, Callie Hooper, Trey Caraway, and Brandon Ratliff.
She is also survived by her nieces, Nancy (Mickey) Warren, Connie (Sal) Inghilleri, and Wanda Rhodes; nephew, Rick (Beth) Clawson; sisters-in-law, Norean Attkisson and Eloise (Larry) Hicks; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Dorothy was blessed with special friends who held a meaningful place in her life, including Jan Logan, Geoffrey Beard, Keith Baker, Linda Clark, Kalyb Wyeth, and Hansard Leo Cole Sr. Their friendship, kindness, and presence meant more to Dorothy and her family than words can express.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, William Cordell “Cutie” Rogers and Bobby Gene Thomason; her son, William Stanley Rogers; her great-grandson, Hansard “Little Man” Leo Cole III; and her son-in-law, Donnie Harris. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Poe, Hassie Clawson, Esterlene Benderman, Minnie Pierce, Lucy Sharpe, and Susie Robinson; her brothers, Edward, Eslick, Hazel, Jim, Joe, and Eldon Attkisson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Rick and Jessica, the Mt. Pleasant First Responders, the EMTs, the Maury Regional Oncology nurses, Caris Hospice, and Sarah for the care, kindness, and compassion shown to Dorothy and her family. Their support during Dorothy’s final days will always be remembered with gratitude.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m with Derek Boyd officiating. Following the service, Dorothy will be placed in her final resting place at Polk Memorial Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Hayden Ward, Keyton Bradburn, Kalyb Wyeth, and John Michael Irwin.
Though she will be deeply missed, Dorothy leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry her love with them. Her place in their hearts will remain forever.
