Dorothy King, a beloved member of the Porter’s Chapel community, passed away on August 16, 2023, at the age of 94 in Columbia, Tennessee. Born on April 25, 1929, in her hometown of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, Dorothy led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and compassion.

Dorothy's career was centered around caring for others. She dedicated many years of her life as an LPN at Maury Regional Medical Center until her well-deserved retirement. Her passion for helping those in need was evident in the countless lives she touched throughout her career. Dorothy's caring nature extended beyond her professional life as well.

Dorothy was a long-time member of Porter's Chapel United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. She served as a Sunday school teacher and loved serving her church. She also loved serving her community as she was a volunteer for the Mount Pleasant Phosphate Museum and was a member of the Maury County Home Demonstration Club

Known for her wicked sense of humor. Dorothy had a zest for life that was infectious to everyone around her. Dorothy had an uncanny ability to put others at ease.


Outside of work and family time, Dorothy had a talent for knitting. She would spend hours knitting beautiful Barbie clothes for her daughter. ands crafted baby booties, hats, and blankets for new mothers at her church.

Dorothy's absence will be deeply felt by her devoted family and friends. She is survived by her loving children: Danny King (Rhonda), Janet Meadows (Joseph), Theresa Dale Blair, and David King (Debbie). In addition to her children, Dorothy leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Heather King, Joey Meadows, and Joshua L. Blair. She is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding Dorothy in death are her husband Ernest Joshua "E.J." King; parents Earnest and Ethel Henson; son Randy King; and siblings John Henson, Lavergne Henson, Virgil Henson, and Wilma Jones Henson. Although Dorothy's passing leaves a void in the lives of her family and friends, her memory will forever be kept alive through their stories and shared experiences.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Compassus Hospice.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. A service for Dorothy will be on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Ebeneezer Cemetery next to her husband.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Maury County Animal Shelter and Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church building fund.
