IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward
Riley Sr.
December 26, 1952 – March 16, 2026
Edward Riley Sr., 73, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, passed away on March 16th, 2026. Born on December 26, 1952, in Kankakee, Illinois, Ed lived a life marked by laughter, love, and a playful spirit that stayed with him to the very end.
Ed was a devoted member of the Catholic faith, and his beliefs were an important part of his life. He carried his faith with quiet strength, guided by compassion, forgiveness, and gratitude. His passing on 3/16 is a bittersweet reminder of John 3:16, "...whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life..."
Ed was a man who never missed an opportunity to smile or to make someone else smile. He had a quick wit, an easy laugh, and a mischievous sparkle in his eye that let you know he was probably about to tease you — all in good fun. His joy was contagious, and his presence could brighten even the most ordinary day.
He also had a deep love for music — especially the unmistakable energy of James Brown. If one of his songs came on, you could count on Ed tapping his foot, singing along, or reminding everyone that nobody could do it quite like the “Godfather of Soul.” Music brought him joy, and he shared that joy freely with those around him.
Whether sharing stories, cracking jokes, dancing to a favorite tune, or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, he made life lighter for everyone around him.
He is survived by his sons, Deon Swinson and Edward Riley Jr; his daughters, Lucretia Minardo and Deanna Riley; and a proud legacy of 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He also leaves behind three sisters: Lilian Smith, Evelyn Riley, and Debra Howery; as well as three brothers: Bennie Anthony, Rashid Ali, and Clifton Riley.
Ed was preceded in death by his father, Willie Riley Sr.; his mother, Ernestine Riley; and his sister, Kathryn Louise Gyles.
Above all, Ed will be remembered for the way he made people feel — welcomed, entertained, and loved. His laughter echoes in the hearts of his family and friends, and his playful spirit will live on in every shared joke, every family gathering, and every song that gets people on their feet.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
