Hazel Broughton, age 85, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025. She was born on November 19, 1939, in Waynesboro, Tennessee, to the late Ivan and Stella Frazier.
Hazel was the most selfless woman, always putting others before herself. She had a giving heart, a kind soul, and a spunky, vibrant spirit that lit up every room she entered. She never met a stranger, and her ability to connect with people left a lasting impression on everyone she met. To know Hazel was to love her.
She enjoyed life’s simple joys—shopping trips, visits to the casino, and, without fail, her morning coffee paired with her Winstons. Her laughter and quick wit brought joy to her family, and her presence made every gathering brighter. She was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren, cherishing each new generation that came along.
Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory: her children, Karen Melton and Loyal Steve Melton (Tammy); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A service to honor Hazel’s life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the start of the service. Following the service, Hazel will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Waynesboro, Tennessee.
Hazel will be remembered for her selflessness, her kindness, and her zest for life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
