Obituary

Herbert “Herb” Putman passed away on August 15, 2026, at Mount Pleasant Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A Celebration of Life for Herb will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, with Bro. Ricky Glass officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery.

Born in Ethridge, Tennessee, Herb lived a life marked by service to his family, his church, his profession, and his community. He devoted many years to the field of respiratory therapy, serving as Director of Respiratory Therapy at Williamson Medical Center. In 1988, he began working at Maury Regional Medical Center, where he continued his career until his retirement in 2009.

Herb’s faith was an important part of his life. He served as an Elder at Thompson Station church of Christ. After moving to Summertown in 1998, he became an active member of Summertown church of Christ, where he especially enjoyed teaching Bible classes for teenagers. His willingness to share his knowledge and faith with young people was a meaningful part of his service to the church.

Outside of work and church, Herb had a passion for working on Volvo cars. His yard was often filled with Volvos, and he became well known for his mechanical skills and his ability to work on them. He was also a frequent shopper at Harbor Freight, always ready to find another tool for a project.

Some of Herb’s happiest times were spent traveling and camping with his wife, Pam. Together, they visited campgrounds whenever they could, enjoying the journey as much as the destination. The beauty and peacefulness of the mountains held a special place in his heart and made them a favorite vacation destination.

Above all, Herb treasured his family. He is survived by his wife, Pam Putman; children, Shannon (Kellie) Putman, Jason (Amy) Putman, Jamie (Melissa) Putman, Amanda (Justin) Seiber, and Stephen (Kristen) Sears; siblings, Jerry (Karen) Putman and Harold Putman; grandchildren, Julianna, Jocelyn, Darrion, Bailey, Riley, Liam, Hayden, Tessa, Emery, Mason, Josie, Tylee, Kash, Lane, and River; and great-grandchildren, Maddox, Ivy, and Henry.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Putman, Sr. and Jewell Bunt Putman; his sister-in-law, Ruth Putman; and his son, Joshua Sears.

Herb will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his years of service to others, his talent for fixing things, his love of the mountains and the open road, and, most of all, the life he shared with the family he loved.

Pallbearers are Spencer Tidwell, Avery Tidwell, Mark Tidwell, Stephen Sears, Hayden Bowling, Barry Putman, Riley Putman.

Wiliams Funeral Home is honored to serve the Putman family. Condolences may be shared at www.williamsfh.com
