James Brady, Sr. passed away on August 10, 2026, at NHC Healthcare Sparta.
Born in Columbia, Tennessee, James was the son of the late Leonard Brady and Rhoda Caldwell Brady on November 23, 1941. He was a hardworking and talented man who lived a full life and found joy in many different pursuits. Above all, James was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cared deeply for his family.
James had a creative spirit and a gift for words. A talented writer and author, he wrote three books throughout his life, an accomplishment that reflected both his imagination and his love of storytelling. He also loved to sing and could often be found working with his hands, whether he was whittling wood, tinkering with something that needed fixing, or simply seeing what he could create.
A worldly man with a curious nature, James enjoyed antiquing and collecting rocks and appreciated the stories and history found in the things around him. He was also known for his sense of humor and loved to joke and make others laugh. Yet behind his humor was a quieter kindness. James was often a silent helper—the kind of person who would lend a hand or do something thoughtful without ever needing recognition for it.
James leaves behind a family who will cherish his stories, humor, creativity, and the many memories they shared with him. He is survived by his children, James Brady, Jr. (Tina), Charles Brady (Teresa), Samantha Brady, Mark Brady (Jessa), and Matthew Brady; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers; one sister; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Leonard and Rhoda Brady, James was preceded in death by one brother.
James will be remembered for the life he lived, the words he wrote, the things he created, the laughter he shared, and most of all, for the love he had for his family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 17, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. A service for James will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. James will be laid to rest at Johnson Chapel Cemetery in Fly Tennessee.
