James F. Chatman

James Floyd "Whitey" Chatman, age 84, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Born on March 2, 1940, to the late Leston and Irene Voss Chatman, Whitey was a beloved member of the Mt. Pleasant community. He was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church and held a deep faith in Jesus Christ throughout his life.

Whitey spent the majority of his life in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. Where he married his wife, of 54 years, Carolyn Faye Henson in 1958.  He relocated his family to New Jersey for nearly eight years, where his youngest child was born, but the draw of family and the familiarity of home brought them back to Tennessee. Whitey worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator, a career that he took pride in.

Whitey loved fishing, watching westerns and football with his sons, and having meaningful conversations with friends and family. He cherished driving through the countryside, taking in the beautiful scenery.

Whitey's memory will be cherished by his sons, Ricky (Nene) Chatman of Mt. Pleasant, and Evan (Jenny) Chatman of Mt. Pleasant; and his sister, Sandy (Roger) Hinson. His legacy will continue through his grandchildren: Rick, Elisha, Breanna, Wade, Tyler, Rylee, Michael, B.J., and Edward Lee, as well as 10 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Whitey was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Faye "Henson" Chatman; brother, Larry Chatman; daughter, Sherry Johnson; granddaughter, Jennifer Pruitt; and grandson, Leo “LittleMan” Cole.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. Pastor Mike Gillock will be officiating. Following services, Whitey will be laid to rest at Ebenezer Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Those honored as pallbearers: Rick Chatman, Tyler Craig, Brenten Shepherd, Caden Chatman, Mike Thompson, Zach Shepherd, and Jimmy Woodard.

Whitey's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit and legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
