Johnny Lee Pettus, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Countryside Healthcare in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
Born on November 13, 1950, in Loretto, Tennessee, Johnny was the son of the late George Lee Pettus and Elvie Lucille Newton Pettus.
Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam era from 1969 to 1971. He trained at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Fort Polk, Louisiana, and received the National Defense Service Medal, along with recognition as a First Class Gunner, Expert Rifleman, and Sharpshooter.
Throughout his working years, Johnny was employed for many years with Gobble Trucking Company and later with Wilson Oil Company.
Johnny enjoyed UT football, talking sports, playing cards, and spending time with his buddies. Known for being a jokester, he loved having a good time and sharing laughter with those around him.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Clemons Daniels; brothers-in-law, Jerry Clemons and Bill Daniels; and nieces, Shelia Clemons Entrekin Parrish and Cindy Daniels Holman.
Johnny is survived by his brother, Billy Pettus (Cindy); nephews, Jason Pettus (Kristen), Terry Clemons (Renea), and Tim Daniels; nieces, Anna Leigh Pettus and Chanda Foutch (Tommy); many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and cousins; and his special friend, Carolyn Regenburg.
Johnny loved his friends at Countryside Health and especially cherished the staff, whom he truly considered family.
The family will receive friends at Coleman Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A celebration of life will follow, with Bro. Allan Black officiating at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will be held at Pettus Cemetery in Lexington, Alabama, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
