Obituary

Joyce G. Thompson, age 67, passed away peacefully at St. Thomas West Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Born on January 30, 1959, in Columbia, Tennessee, Joyce was the daughter of the late Virginia and Clyde Cozart. She was the second youngest of eight children and graduated from Columbia Central High School with the Class of 1978.

Joyce found her greatest joy in spending time with the people she loved most. She shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Frankie Thompson, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love. She enjoyed traveling, taking walks, reading and studying her Bible, attending Bible study with her dear friends, and filling her home with warmth and hospitality. Joyce especially loved trips to the beach, searching for treasures at yard sales, and caring for her beloved chickens, cats, and dogs. She loved to dance, sing, laugh, and embrace every opportunity life offered. Above all, Joyce cherished her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her unwavering faith carried her through life's trials, providing her with strength, comfort, and peace. While she loved many things, nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her precious grandbabies, who were truly the light of her life.

Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, Frankie Thompson; her daughters, Melissa (Albert) Lynn and Kimberly (Josh) Wells; and her beloved grandchildren, Brody Lynn, Sadie Lynn, Judah Wells, and Kennedy Wells.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Clyde Cozart, and by her sisters, Dorothy Cozart, Debbie Tingle, and Patsy Harvey.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Columbia, Tennessee. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, Joyce's legacy of unwavering faith, boundless love, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Heaven has truly gained a beautiful angel.
