Judith “Judy” Medina, 80, of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, passed away on August 9, 2026. She was born on March 5, 1946, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to Nadine and Thomas Redmond.

Judy was a strong, feisty, and determined woman who faced adversity head-on and rarely allowed life’s challenges to defeat her. She grew up and raised her family on the West Side of Long Beach, California, where she spent many years of her life. As a young widow, Judy carried the tremendous responsibility of raising her family while building a life defined by hard work, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

She became much more than a mother to her own children. Judy was a cornerstone and a safe place for her children, her younger siblings, and many of their friends. Her home and her heart were places where people could find strength, support, and someone who would stand beside them when life became difficult.

Judy believed deeply in the importance of a strong work ethic. She instilled in her children the values of strength, resilience, dependability, and perseverance—lessons that became part of the foundation of the lives they built.

Judy retired from the Long Beach Unified School District, where she spent her career feeding and caring for school children. She took pride in her work and in knowing that she was helping provide meals and care for the children in her community.

In her later years, Judy moved to Hampshire, Tennessee, to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. What began as a new chapter eventually became a place of comfort and peace for Judy. She came to appreciate the beauty of Middle Tennessee. She especially enjoyed sitting on the front porch with family, taking in the beauty around her and watching her hummingbirds come and go. Those quiet moments brought her a special kind of peace and became some simple pleasures she cherished.

Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Arthur Medina (“Tudy”); her granddaughter, Jessica Mesa; her parents, Nadine and Thomas Redmond.

She is survived by her children, Priscilla Gonzalez, Ramona Medina (Joe Mesa), Alicia Legarrea (Steve), and, Jonathan Andres;  her grandchildren: Raymond Lyon (Joanna), Gabriel Gonzalez (Jaime), Arturo Gonzalez, Julia Gonzalez, Esteban Legarrea (Carla), Daniel Legarrea, Anthony Legarrea, Anna Legarrea, Marina Bojorquez (Andres), Michael Gonzalez, Jonathan Gonzalez, Joseph Mesa, and Kayla Andres; as well as 14 great-grandchildren; 

She is also survived by her siblings, David Redmond (Pat), Ronda Havlicheck, Susan Stewart (Greg), and Timmy Redmond and several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. 

Judy will be remembered for her strength, her determination, her fierce love for her family, and the countless ways she showed up for the people who needed her. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, dependability, and love that will continue through the generations.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva, Dr. Kennedy and the loving staff of The Medical Group of Columbia for the compassionate care, kindness and support they provided. Their dedication and love brought comfort not only to her, but to her entire family, and will always be deeply appreciated.

The family will have a celebration of life honoring Judy at a later date.
