Linda Lou
Chipman
Jan 7, 1944 — Jun 20, 2026
Lin Chipman left behind a legacy measured by the lives she nurtured, the love she gave, the friends she made, and the memories she created. She passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2026, with her daughters by her side. She was 82.
Born Linda Lou Dame on January 7, 1944, in Walhalla, North Dakota, she was the beloved daughter of Raymond Dame and Ruby Short. The second of four children, she grew up alongside sisters Myrna and Boni and brother Loren in Glendive, Montana. Raised with strong values and a steadfast spirit, she attended Catholic school and later graduated from Dawson County High.
Shortly after graduation, Linda married Loren Nentwig and began the role that would become her greatest joy, being a mother. Together they welcomed four children: Tamera, twins Barbara and Bill, and Wendy.
Later, as a single mother, Linda worked tirelessly to support her kids and allow them to pursue their interests and passions. She cheered them on in sports, school, and life, making sure they never doubted how deeply they were loved. Her children fondly remember their younger years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Favorite memories include summer picnics at nearby Lake Elizabeth with her homemade potato salad and famous marble cake, road trips to Tahoe and Santa Cruz, and family vacations back to where it all began in Montana.
Christmas was her favorite season, a time when her generous spirit shone the brightest. There were always more packages than could fit under the tree, and her children remember how she took extra care to make sure each of them had the same number of gifts to open. It wasn’t about the presents, though; it was about making sure each child knew they were equally loved.
Linda found happiness in her family, her friends, and her relationships. As her kids spread their wings, she visited them wherever life took them – Georgia, Holland, Tennessee, and beyond. If possible, she got even more joy out of being a grandma. Her heart overflowed with love for her grandchildren, who were her greatest treasures. She established a special relationship with each and every one, always welcoming the opportunity to celebrate or support them on the sidelines and in the stands.
An avid seamstress, she sewed many of her own clothes as a teen, made Halloween costumes and cheerleading uniforms for her kids, and doll clothes and blankets for her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, loved live music, wine tasting, jewelry making, and tending to her plants and flowers.
Dedicated and hardworking, she earned her realtor's license and then went on to build a successful career in corporate sales with United Van Lines. No matter what she did for a living, her strong work ethic was always evident.
The last decade of Linda's life brought significant health challenges, but family always remained a priority. During those difficult years, she spent time living with each of her daughters, always keeping them on their toes. Her last weeks were spent in Columbia, Tennessee, enjoying simple pleasures like her morning mocha, time on the porch, singing along to Simon & Garfunkel and Neil Diamond, making new memories with her daughters, and reminiscing about her parents, siblings, and childhood.
Her warm presence, kind heart, enduring spirit, and unique dance moves will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those fortunate enough to know and love her.
She leaves behind her children, Tamera Diamond, Barbara Kahwaty, Bill Nentwig, and Wendy Lee Nentwig; her seven cherished grandchildren; eleven adored great-grandchildren; and a lifetime of unforgettable memories. She will be forever missed.
