Linda
Cochran
Jun 29, 1937 — Oct 23, 2026
Columbia
Linda Jane King Cochran, 89, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026, at NHC Maury.
The youngest of six siblings, Linda was born in Maury County on June 29, 1937, to the late Charles Edward King and the late Rhoda Carena Lindsey King. After graduating from Columbia Central High School in 1955, she moved to Nashville, where she was employed by National Life and Accident Insurance Company.
On October 24, 1962, she married Earl Cochran and returned to Columbia. There, she began a lifelong work of steadfast service to her family as a full-time homemaker. Delicious home-cooked meals were among the many ways she expressed her love and care for her husband and son. Earl preceded her in death on December 4, 1993, after 31 years of marriage.
She was of the Presbyterian faith.
One of Linda’s favorite activities was reading, and she could often be found with a newspaper, magazine or catalog close at hand.
Her love of older country music ran deep, with George Strait always at the top of her list. And from his earliest days, Elvis held a special place in her musical heart as well.
Linda is survived by a son, David Cochran, of Columbia; a sister, Sue Cathey, of Nashville; a brother-in-law, Dan Parsons, of Thompsons Station; a number of nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters Josephine King, Ina Ruth King and Charlene Parsons; a brother, James King; sisters-in-law Verna King, Shirley Cochran and Henrietta McKennon Ward; brothers-in-law John Cochran and Leslie “Van” Ward; and a niece, Patricia “Pattie” Parsons.
Words cannot adequately convey the family’s gratitude to Linda’s nieces Suzanne Kay, Chris McKennon Thoman and Frances McKennon Watkins, and great-niece Amber Clark for their kindness, sacrifice and counsel in helping care for her. Their presence gave immeasurable comfort to David and to Linda during her final journey.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences can be given to the family at williamsfh.com.
