Martha Sue Kuykendall Hayes, 73, of Columbia, Tennessee, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 12, 2025. She was born on October 18, 1951, to the late Ray and Bettye Kuykendall in Columbia, TN.
To know Martha Sue was to be loved by her. She had a smile that lit up every room and a kind word for everyone she met. Her gentle, encouraging spirit touched countless lives, and her deep faith was the foundation of everything she did. She devoted her life to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, always pointing others toward His love and grace, even on her death bed.
Martha Sue loved her family more than anything. She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, whose presence was a constant source of strength and comfort. She was passionate about learning natural health remedies, which earned her the affectionate nickname “Dr. Susie” from those who sought her wisdom and care.
A woman of many talents, she enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking or taking a moment to sit and play at the piano often accompanying with her beautiful voice. She loved being in the sunshine as often as possible, and she loved going for walks. She was always athletic in nature playing many sports throughout her life, and she made sure to nourish her body, mind, and soul. She loved to invest in others, and she was a gifted teacher. Her giving nature and love for her Lord were evident in all that she did. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Spending time with family was one of her most cherished activities, such as watching westerns with her beloved Ken or keeping her grandchildren and spoiling them.
Martha Sue’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and selfless service. Her kindness and encouragement will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Martha Sue is survived by her husband of 25 years: Kenneth Hayes; children: Courtney (Ray) Jeter and Crystal (Bryan) Dohoney; grandchildren: Gage (Kiara) Blackburn, Brannon (Tala) Jeter, Andrea Jeter, Hunter Smith; great grandchildren: Aden Jeter and Luella Jeter; siblings: Bettye Kuykendall (Cesar) Mazuelos; surrogate daughter: Kresta Jeter; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a great great nephew; also her k-9 companions: Ole Joe and Chester.
Martha Sue is preceded in death by her brother Ray Kuykendall.
A private service will take place at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Honorary Pallbearers are her great nephews: Alex Burns, Austin Burns, Chase Rowe, Collin Rowe, and nephew Steven Kuykendall.
