Mary Carol Jorgensen

Mary Carol Jorgensen, 81, passed away on May 18, 2025 in Summertown, TN. She was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Charles F. Shiflet and Elizabeth Ann Shiflet on December 17, 1943.

A devoted wife, Mary Carol followed her husband, John M. Jorgensen, around the world as he served in the United States Army. From Baltimore, MD to El Paso, TX; White Sands, NM; Kwajalein the Marshall Islands; Seoul, Korea; and Madison, AL before retiring to Gulf Shores, AL. A loving mother, she raised their children, Cynthia and John C. Jorgensen in all these remote locations and made a beautiful home wherever they were.

She showed her love to family, friends and community all of her life. She was a Red Cross volunteer in the schools and a Hospice worker. She was active in her churches – leading bible studies, teaching Sunday school, acting as a lay minister and serving on the Care and Compassion committee.

Eight years ago, Mary Carol moved with her husband, John, to Summertown, TN. They built a home nestled in the pines on a hill between their two children. They were members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hohenwald, TN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Shiflet, and her brothers, Charles and Terry Shiflet. She is survived by her beloved husband, John; her children, Cindy (Mike Campbell) Jorgensen and John C. (Valerie) Jorgensen; sisters, Susanne (Donald) Gurney and Jan (Lance) Sullivan; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Carol’s legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the lives she touched.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, TN. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hohenwald, TN on May 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.

Pall bearers: John C. Jorgensen, Wm. Michael Campbell, John Michael Campbell, Sam Jorgensen, Sunshine Walton, Lucas Ragsdale, and Alan Bastin.
