Obituary

Nathaniel Hampton Sr. peacefully departed this life on June 30, 2026, at the age of 89.

Visitation with family will be Monday, July 13, 2026, from 11:00AM to 12:00PM. with funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM at Saint Ruth PB Church. Interment will be in Orr Chapel Cemetery, 8397 W. Sheepneck Road, Sandy Hook, TN. Officiant will be Rev Lesa Webster-Dawson; Eulogist will be Elder Kerry James.

He was born on May 25, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, to the late Earl Hampton and Carrie Williams-Hampton. Nathaniel was the second oldest of nine children and graduated from Clark Training High School. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in the Christian faith, a commitment that remained the foundation of his life.

As a young man, Nathaniel relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where he established his home and built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. He married Inell Hampton, and together they were blessed with five children: Nathaniel Jr., Xavier, Keishawn, Quinton and Keisha.

Nathaniel relocated to Nashville, TN years later. Nathaniel was a gifted professional painter who dedicated many years of his life to his craft. Beyond his profession, he possessed a deep love for gospel music and ministry. He served as a Gospel Disc Jockey on WNAH 1360 AM, where he shared messages of hope and inspiration through music. He was also a devoted member and singer with the New Hebron Echos Southern Gospel Quartet. His passion for spreading God's Word through song touched countless lives and left an enduring impact on everyone who heard him.

Nathaniel was known for his warm spirit, infectious smile, and genuine love for people.

Nathaniel was preceded in death by his wife, Inell Hampton; his cherished son, Keishawn Hampton; his sisters, Elizabeth Armstrong and Vera McGill; and his brother, James Thomas Hampton.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: three sons, Nathaniel Hampton Jr. (Janet), Xavier Hampton (Glenda), and Quinton Hampton; one daughter, Keisha Hampton-Williams (Ulysses); two brothers, Charlie Hampton and Jewell Hampton; three sisters, Dora Whittaker, Myra Buchanan, and Carrie O. Frierson; eight beloved grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, cherished friends, neighbors, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing him.

Although he has departed from this earthly life, Nathaniel Hampton Sr.'s legacy of faith, love, kindness, and devotion to God will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The family of Nathaniel Hampton Sr. sincerely thanks each of you for your prayers, comforting words, acts of kindness, and expressions of love during this difficult time. Your support has been a tremendous source of strength, comfort, and encouragement as we celebrate a life well lived.

May God richly bless each of you for your thoughtfulness, compassion, and unwavering support. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers as we cherish the precious memories and enduring legacy of our beloved Nathaniel Hampton Sr.
