Peter Counter

August 9, 1966 — June 17, 2025

Summertown, TN

Peter Mason Counter, 58, of Summertown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2025. Born in Garden City, Michigan, Peter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, known for his warm heart, musical talent, and wonderful sense of humor.

Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Lenny Counter; his cherished children, Emily (Collin) Hargrove and Joseph Counter; and his treasured grandchildren, Marshall and Daisy, who lovingly knew him as “Paw-Paw.” He is also survived by his parents, Peter and Mary Counter; his sisters, Crystal (Joe) Ryczko and Melany (Patrick) Dean; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A gifted musician, Peter was proficient in a wide array of stringed instruments, including the fiddle, mandolin, guitar, piano, and bass. For over two decades, he shared his talents with the gospel group, the Napier Singers, and had a lifelong passion for bluegrass music. Music was not just a calling for Peter—it was a shared joy with his wife, Lenny. Together, they created beautiful harmonies, with Peter singing lead and Lenny providing the harmony, their voices blending as seamlessly as their lives.

Peter found immense joy in his family, especially in the laughter and love of his grandchildren. Whether he was cooking up his signature Christmas Gumbo, sharing a story, or playing a tune, his presence brought comfort and happiness to those around him. He had an infectious sense of humor and a light that brightened every room.

Peter’s life was a beautiful symphony of love, laughter, and music, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
