Obituary

Tim, also known as Lee, was born on April 5, 1966, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Mamie Flossie Blankenship and Andrew Hale Johnston. He spent his childhood in several places throughout West Virginia before his family eventually settled in Man, West Virginia, where he spent much of his younger life. There, he grew up with his brother, Junior Johnston, and his sisters, Anna Johnston. Tim was adopted by his grandparents and raised in a close-knit family surrounded by many aunts and uncles, whose presence helped shape the foundation of his early years.

Tim spent many years working as an owner-operator truck driver for Robinette Trucking/Loudon County, two companies that later merged. He was known for his dedication, hard work, and the pride he took in his profession. Along the way, he built lasting friendships and was a friend to many of his co-workers. He will be remembered not only for his strong work ethic, but also for the kindness and camaraderie he shared with those around him.

Tim was a devoted husband and family man who leaves behind many loved ones to cherish his memory. He was married to Tracy Lynn Johnston and was a proud stepfather to Coty Carpenter, Chris Carpenter, and Cadin Carpenter. He also leaves behind his daughters-in-law, Jacklynn Carpenter, Brooke Curry, and Abigail Reece. Tim was a loving grandfather to five grandsons, Chase Carpenter, Lukas Carpenter, Oliver Carpenter, Reign Carpenter, and Warren Carpenter, and one granddaughter, Jaylee Carpenter. He is also survived by his sisters, Anna Johnston, Angel Dempsey, Kathy Kee Conley and his brothers, Ronnie Goodman, Junior Johnston, and Chris Goodman. In addition to his immediate family, there are many other relatives and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

Tim will be remembered for the life he lived, the love he shared, and the many people he touched along the way. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. As Scripture says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7. A life well lived leaves a legacy of love.

The family will receive friends on June 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Columbia location chapel of Williams Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 PM with Ronnie Goodman officiating.

Closing Prayer

May God bring comfort and peace to all who mourn the loss of Tim. May his life be remembered with love, his memory cherished with joy, and his legacy carried on through the family and friends who knew him best. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those he touched. May the Lord grant strength for each day, peace in every sorrow, and hope in the promise of eternal life.
