Willodyne Hines

Willodyne Hines, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at the Marietta, Georgia home she shared with her niece, Judy Walden (Marty). She was born on March 27, 1930 in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee to Ida Mae Skillern and Reece McOra Hines who was a master mechanic. Until a fall in early May, she had enjoyed good health and a sharp mind which characterized her long and interesting life. She was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, (Josephine H. Cotten), (Roberta H. Renfro) and (William Howard Hines), her beloved daughter, Vanessa Wiant, two nephews, a niece and a great nephew. Willodyne is survived by her daughter, Sondra Dodge, son, Stuart Dodge, and son-in-law, Jim Wiant. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Wiant, Summer (Zach), Journey and Storm Fortner along with 6 nieces and nephews, 9 great nieces and nephews, 17 great great nieces and nephews and 8 great great great nieces and nephews.

Following high school, Willodyne graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1953 and began working in Oak Ridge, Tennessee for the Atomic Energy Commission as a mathematician. She recalled living in a dormitory during her three-year stay and working at three of the nearby AEC plants, including the gaseous diffusion laboratory. Leaving her job, she travelled alone in Europe for several months and then went to work for General Atomics in Southern California. Throughout her life, she lived and worked in several states including Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. Willodyne loved to play bridge. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing in the church choir, as well as, sing, dance and perform in Community Theater.

Willodyne loved and valued her family and friends, some of whom she had maintained friendships with since elementary school. She will be greatly missed by many.

Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee following a graveside service on Wednesday, July 2nd at 11:00 am.
